After a brief break the autumnal windy weekend theme continued today. I was
expecting the breeze to fill in around 9am and with high tide at 3pm I
planned for an early start. No wind first thing but nevertheless I
optimistically got in the van. And no wind when I arrived at the beach.
Rigged up the 5.8 and got a book out to read on a prom bench since it was
nice and sunny.
About 1 hour later there was still no wind to speak of. Pat and Basher
turned up and decided to be the guinea pigs, and jammy gits as soon as they
hit the water the breeze picked up! Grrr I could have stayed in bed.
Anyhoo...at least I had already rigged up, so the (winter) wetsuit was
quickly donned. And there followed a pretty crappy session. Mostly well
powered, but choppy-shorebreaky-waveless sh*te. Barely a flat patch
anywhere for easy manouevring, and my shins and ankles soon became
mega-cramped trying to keep the board on the corrugated water. After about
an hour or so with the wind now picking up I considered changing down to
the waveboard to try and help smooth things out, but on coming in to the
beach the wind died which left me with a very good excuse to pack up.
Not great but at least I got out. Better is expected of the first few days
of next week.
